Mohali: The player auction for Sher-E-Punjab 2026 witnessed an eye-catching strategic call by franchises as they went all out for 29-year-old all-rounder Sanvir Singh, making him the most expensive acquisition at Rs 13.20 lakh. Fazilka Falcons warded off competition for the big-hitter’s services, taking the centre-stage in an auction featuring experienced IPL campaigners like Shubman Gill and Arshdeep Singh.
While such a record sum can often disrupt campaigns due to the weight of expectations, Sanvir stepped up in an admirable manner with the bat while handling the captain’s mantle. The former SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder emerged as the fifth highest run-getter in the edition, smashing 377 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 183.90. Sanvir’s batting average of 75.40 was the third highest in the 2026 season, recording 33 fours and 21 sixes with four half-centuries to his credit.
The pace-bowling all-rounder showcased intent and consistency while spearheading a batting lineup comprising emerging performers, helping the Falcons recover astutely in tough circumstances and finish strongly. Opposition spinners were launched with gusto into the stands, as the Punjab cricketer’s lusty blows left fans and experts enthralled. The 29-year-old further caught the eye with his fielding, pulling off a flying, full-stretch stunner against Ludhiana Lions which earned comparisons to Jonty Rhodes.
Sanvir has been a game-changer for Punjab in the limited-overs version of the game, making his presence felt in the DY Patil T20 Cup over the years as well.
The all-rounder’s impact is further evident from his inclusion in an illustrious list of players who’ve recorded a T20 strike rate of more than 180 while maintaining an average in excess of 35. With a strong display in Sher-E-Punjab 2026 under the belt, Sanvir will be eyeing similar success in the IPL as well.
